I'm one of the lucky ones. I've never had a migraine.
I've had headaches. But a migraine headache is a different condition altogether, and is best thought of as a "syndrome" instead of a single condition. The Migraine Research Foundation has collected some fascinating facts and statistics regarding migraines:

All the available research indicates that chiropractic care is safe for children and adults, and certainly compares favorably with other medical and health care techniques. The research watchdogs at Chiro.org unearthed a review of the research literature, comparing the safety of the chiropractic adjustment with the osteopathic and medical manipulation. The article was originally published in the journal Clinical Chiropractic, Volume 14, Issue 3: You may be looking at your phone or computer right now, wondering if chiropractic can help you. What is chiropractic? How is chiropractic different from the other medical sciences? Is it worth a try?
Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, Iowa, has developed a clear-eyed and concise description of the identity of a chiropractor: "The primary care professional for spinal health and well-being." The implications of this sentence are extraordinary. After all, the spine is arguably the most important structural part of the skeleton since it provides security for the spinal cord. The spinal cord is the primary interface between the nervous system and every other cell and organ in the human body. Therefore, the health of the spinal cord may well determine the health of the entire body. So chiropractic is definitely the go-to profession for back pain and neck pain... and it can help with other conditions as well? The identity statement of Palmer College, which has been painstakingly crafted over many years, expands on the premise: "Chiropractic focuses on neurological and musculoskeletal integrity, and aims to favorably impact health and well-being, relieve pain and infirmity, enhance performance, and improve quality of life without drugs or surgery." I see patients every day who can say that their quality of life is improved because of chiropractic health care, without the invasiveness of additional drugs or surgery. For some, the quality of life improvement is drastic, such as being able to garden again, to dance again, or to run long distances. For others, the quality of life improvement is subtle but no less important to them: the ability to sit at a computer again, to sleep four hours in a row, to sit through a class without agonizing pain. Improvements in quality of life without the possible side effects of more medication or without the permanency of surgery? Priceless. The Palmer College identity statement lists the many duties and abilities of a chiropractor: Peanut allergies appear more prevalent now than at any time in the world's history, and still on the rise. The most obvious question is, "Why?" Why are peanut allergies suddenly so explosive? What has changed? Is the problem genetic, chemical, environmental? Why do so many people's immune systems suddenly regard the humble peanut as the enemy? We are certainly exposed to far more synthetic and concentrated chemicals on a daily basis than human beings have ever been. This is one possible explanation, but it is difficult to verify through research since these chemicals affect everybody. Example: If only a small population of individuals were affected by Chemical A (for example) and also had a higher than normal incidence of peanut allergy, then we might be able to say that Chemical A and peanut allergy are correlated. We wouldn't be able to say that Chemical A causes peanut allergy, but simply that there seems to be a connection between the two. But if everyone is affected by Chemical A and Chemical B and Chemical C, then it's almost impossible to figure out which one of the chemicals might have a relationship with a peanut allergy. That's what makes a new study so interesting. Researchers claim that they've found a subset of the population who has a higher incidence of peanut allergies: the middle class. The upshot of the article is that the wealthier a family tends to be... then the cleaner their house and environment is kept... then the children growing up in these houses encounter fewer bacteria and viruses... then these children have underdeveloped immune systems which are itching for a fight... then these immune systems erroneously identify peanuts as an allergen (enemy). Sounds to me like chiropractic theory in practice! "Because, after all, A person's a person, no matter how small." -- Dr. Seuss, Horton Hears A Who! Little people need healthy bodies just as much as big people do! Parents instinctively know this, which is why I am often asked if chiropractic can be used for children, if chiropractic is safe for children, and if I am a child chiropractor. To take those questions in order: Can Chiropractic Be Used For Children? Yes. Chiropractic can be useful for any creature with a nervous system (there are even pet chiropractors, since all animals have a nervous system). Chiropractic is used to help the brain and spinal cord relay their messages properly to all the organs of the body. Since children are growing so rapidly, the coordination between their brains and bodies has to be precise. If there is any interference in the nervous system, their natural growth may be altered. This can occur as a result of toxins, autoimmune disorders, or even minor trauma, such as falling off a bike. Since children are usually highly active, they accumulate a host of minor bumps and bruises that, over time, can cause their nervous systems to perform at a suboptimal level, whether or not the child complains of symptoms. A simple, painless chiropractic adjustment can be just what children need to get their growth and bodies back on track. Child health issues often resolve quickly. Less often, children may complain of headaches or chronic neck or back pain. When this occurs, a doctor of chiropractic should be consulted to rule out more serious conditions, but these ongoing symptoms may simply be the result of poor posture, video gaming, texting, sitting at desks, heavy backpacks, or other easily correctable issues. If these issues sound familiar to you, consider consulting with a child chiropractor in Peoria. Is Chiropractic Safe For Children? Yes!
